A Nursery Day

A Nursery Day

We believe that every child should experience the best that we have to offer, no matter which session they attend.

Each group has their own flexible routine created by their team to ensure that their nursery day is filled with fun, learning and wonder. Click on a group below to learn more.

Caterpillars provides a safe, nurturing environment for our youngest children. The Room contains a non-mobile area, baby climbing frame, and lots of space for walkers-in-training, so it is well-equipped for babies from 6 months to 2 years. Educators with specialised training and experience ensure the highest quality care is provided daily.

During their nursery day, our Caterpillars enjoy:

Stories & Song Times – We link songs to routines such as nappy changing, mealtimes, tidying and start-of-day welcomes. Story Times with our babies are set to start that love of reading early. These provide a familiar structure to the day that helps babies feel safe. The wide variety of songs and stories shared provides a strong foundation for your baby to learn key skills, such as language, listening and attention.

Auxilliary Room Exploration – Caterpillars take full advantage of our Auxilliary Rooms to enrich the babies’ experiences. Time is allotted throughout the day to explore the colourful lights and sounds in our Sensory Room, wriggle, dance and use soft climbing equipment in our Physical Room, or explore the outdoors in the Garden.

Free Flow – With their strong impulse to explore, our Caterpillars are given plenty of time to engage with their environment. Carefully chosen resources and attentive Educators follow and build on their interests.

Mini-Discovery – Experiences tailored to each babies’ needs and abilities are planned. Experienced Educators deliver age-appropriate activities to promote your babies’ development.

Flexible Care Routines – Your baby’s day is planned with their routine in mind. When babies start with us, we follow their routines as closely as possible, including mealtimes, bottle feeds, nappy changes and naps. We find however, that most babies later adapt to a more standardised nursery routine, such as napping after lunch, in their own time.

With your 2-3 year old learning about the world at a rapid rate, our Cocoons group is designed to help them blossom. The room is thoughtfully equipped and decorated to provide your child with a world of possibilities. Learning through play is at the heart of this room, and Educators ensure that the children have varied and fun experiences whilst developing core skills, such as becoming toilet trained, getting along with friends and building their language.

During their nursery day, our Cocoons enjoy:

Welcome – Greeted by their Educators and friends, we welcome each other with songs and actions. We plan out our day so the children know what to expect, providing a routine that feels safe and familiar.

Song & Story Time – Constant access to books along with a set Song & Story Time exposes the children to a fantastic source of new language. They develop their listening and attention skills, nurture a lifelong love of reading and learning, and explore new worlds.

Discovery – Adult-guided sessions are planned based on the children’s key learning objectives and chosen lines of enquiry, and are tailored to their interests and abilities. Discovery sessions happen at key-group level, so every child enjoys the benefits of small-group working with an Educator who knows them well.

Free Flow – Children are given the time, space and resources to explore their own interests. Learning objectives are nestled deep within our carefully planned environments, and Educators sensitively join in children’s play and help them along.

Auxilliary Rooms – Cocoons take full advantage of our Auxilliary Rooms to broaden their daily experiences. Time is allotted throughout the day to enjoy the calming colourful lights and sounds in our Sensory Room, to shake things up with Music, Movement and Soft Play in our Physical Room, or explore the outdoors in the Garden.

Naptime – During the midday naptime, our sleep room is maintained to ensure that your child’s naps are truly restful. Hygiene is important to us, so every napping child has their own portable bed and blanket allocated to them when they start, and blankets are laundered in-house every week. In addition, each group also has a covered den in a quiet corner of their room, filled with soft blankets and cushions if they need a quick catnap during the rest of the day.

Our Butterflies room is for the 3-5 year olds. With school starts looming for our oldest group, we focus on building and polishing the fundamental skills needed to thrive, not just in school, but also as they grow to adulthood in this ever-advancing world.

During their nursery day, our Butterflies enjoy:

Welcome – Greeted by their Educators and friends, the Welcome provides the session start with a familiar routine. We plan our session, sing songs, check the weather and look at our focus numbers and letters. The children also have an opportunity here to share ideas and recount events to their friends, building their confidence and expressive language.

Song & Story Time – Song & Story Time exposes the children to a wealth of new language and provides an excellent opportunity to teach social stories about our feelings and friendships. They develop their listening and attention skills, nurture a lifelong love of reading and learning, explore new real and imaginary worlds, and discuss the “what ifs” of storyland.

Discovery – Adult-guided key-group sessions are planned based on the children’s key learning objectives and chosen lines of enquiry, and are tailored to their interests and abilities. We explore our curiosities, encourage “what if” and “why” questions to develop those critical thinking skills, and introduce lines of enquiry that help us learn about the world we live in. The small and fixed nature of the groups allows key Educators the time to know and help each child on the road to school readiness.

Auxilliary Rooms – Butterflies have full use of our Auxilliary Rooms to extend their daily experiences. Time is allotted to use our in-house Sensory Room, to get moving with Music, Movement and Soft Play in our Physical Room, or experience all-weather play in the Garden.

Free Flow – Children are given the time, space and resources to explore their own interests. Learning objectives are nestled deep within our carefully planned environments, and Educators sensitively join in children’s play and use co-learning methods to help them along.

Specialised Facilities – Our Butterflies Room features The Library – an elevated area designed to simulate traditional library layouts – where independent and social reading activities are fostered. Intentional and supervised access to an Interactive Whiteboard and iPads provides opportunities to learn how to use digital equipment safely, and to develop early methods to find information.
